Extruded profiles suited to interior functions

Challenges

Uniquely shaped panels and structural components

We custom designed the glazed curtain wall system with multiple extrusion profiles to accommodate varying internal uses and performance criteria. We also designed the extensive shear wall areas for the side core, central open atria, and scenic full-height glazed lift shafts.

  • Developing structural systems to suit the building’s organic form
  • Organising unique, individually assembled facade panels
  • Completing comprehensive material selection and benchmarking

The 3D organic form of the building translated into many uniquely shaped facade panel modules. This required uniquely shaped glass panels, steel backpans, framing members and other components. These all added procurement, quality control and logistical complexity to the project.

Material selection and benchmarking process

Selecting materials was an exhaustive process of narrowing a larger palette of material options down to final selections for procurement. We implemented further detailed prototyping to refine key details and provide accepted quality benchmarks. A significant portion of the tower uses a neutral, reflective silver glass that mirrors the dome of 50 Martin Place. We used a more transparent glass type for the Lens feature facing Martin Place and scenic lift shafts.

“We are now working on our second project with Mark and his CoreFDM team and their service, passion and commitment to the project needs has always, and continues to be, to the highest standards.”
