This refurbishment of a 1970s building (Sydney Water Board) included an extension of 40 residential floors. The original building was situated on a site boundary, and for each floor plate to fit the entire building needed to cantilever. The Sydney Verandah was developed for the new upper tower to provide a semi-permeable outdoor space.
Integrating operable windows in towers is a challenge. The hardware needs to allow them to self-close and latch in high wind pressures. Extensive testing ensured the windows achieved practical functionality and performance requirements.
We collaborated closely with BVN to design a sculptural bracket that supported the angled-glass Sydney Verandah balcony screens. We refined the bracket to maximise the casting’s surface quality, and explored multiple finishes to achieve the highest quality outcome.
“We went through some pretty challenging times at the commencement of 2020 when China was severely impacted by COVID-19, and the response from both parties was really positive. Core was really understanding and dealt with unforeseen circumstances really well. We were able to work through challenges without too much of an impact on the project. I believe it was our open and transparent dialogue with the team that allowed for such positive outcomes.”Andrew Westbrook Contracts Manager - Mirvac (Formerly Probuild Constructions)
